RedSn0w


Redsn0w is a tool developed by the Dev Team jailbreak. Originally called QuickPwn, this jailbreak tool was quickly renamed, and now it has become a household name for most Jailbreakers. In contrast to PwnageTool for Mac and Windows redsn0w works, and is considered one of the most reliable tax evasion by the entire community.

So, how redsn0w? It does this by reading inventory iOS firmware and then do a load directly on the device in the form of a RAM disk. Redsn0w usually requires you to put the device in DFU mode to install the jailbreak.


What Device and iOS Version Can RedSn0w Be Used With?

To date, RedSn0w can be used to jailbreak the following iOS devices:
  • iPhone 4: iOS 5, 4.3.5, 4.3.4, 4.3.3, 4.3.2, 4.3.1, 4.3, 4.2.6, 4.2.1, 4.1, 4.0.2, 4.0.1, 4.0, 3.1.3

If you do not use redsn0w

From redsn0w, the device prompts you to upgrade to a newer version of iOS for the jailbreak, we strongly suggest that those of you who unlock the iPhone stay away from RedSn0w, as it might cause you to lose your ability to unlock.

If you are on a release for the iPhone and still rely want to jailbreak the latest available iOS version, you should use PwnageTool or Sn0wbreeze. Both tools allow you to upgrade to a new firmware and jailbreak and baseband, which is the key to unlock yours.

Download redsn0w

Redsn0w is a very lightweight and can be downloaded in seconds. As mentioned previously, redsn0w works with Mac and Windows.

You can download redsn0w from our download section. You will see that there are several versions, but you should always use the latest version. Redsn0w is generally compatible with iPhone firmware old, so even if you want to jailbreak 4.3.2 on IOS for example, you may still have some to download latest version of redsn0w.

Redsn0w Guides and Tutorials

This step-by-step guide and tutorial shows how to use redsn0w to jailbreak your iPhone or iPod. This guide is updated regularly when new versions are released redsn0w, so be sure to check back often.

You can follow this guide if you want any of the above devices jailbreak. Also, if you rely on an unlock for the iPhone, do not use redsn0w. Instead, use PwnageTool (Mac only) or Sn0wbreeze (Windows only).

This manual was written for iOS 4.3.3. It also works for other versions of the firmware.

Step 1: Make sure that the latest version of iTunes. If you are not, upgrade to the latest version of iTunes. You can do it directly from iTunes or downloaded from Apple's Web site.

Step 2: Make sure your iPhone is running the IOS that you want to jailbreak. For example, if you want to run a version of IOS 4.3.3 jailbroken, make sure your iPhone is currently running this firmware. If not, update your iPhone via iTunes and leave your iPhone connected to your computer via the USB cable.

Step 3: Download the latest version of redsn0w available from our download section. Of course, if you work on a Mac, you want to download the Mac version If you are using a PC, download the version of Windows. Redsn0w save on your desktop and once done, unzip the file.

Step 4: Download a copy of the IOS firmware jailbreak you want. If you want to jailbreak iPhone OS 4.3.3 and the firmware, download a copy of the IOS 4.3.3 for the device from our download section. Save the file on your desktop, next to the file redsn0w downloaded in previous step. Be careful. Make sure you upload the correct version of IOS for the right device.

This firmware must be that the extension to ipsw firmware from Apple until the end. The firmware download with Safari can cause problems (ie, change the file extension. Zip). To avoid any problem, you should download the firmware with Firefox or Chrome.

Step 5: Start redsn0w. You will be greeted with the following startup screen.
Step 6: As mentioned redsn0w, click "Browse" to select the appropriate firmware IPSW current. In other words, select the firmware you downloaded in step 4.

If you are jailbreaking an iPhone 3G, redsn0w will ask if there is a newer model. Read the additional information provided carefully.

Step 7: If you did everything right, redsn0w will tell you that IPSW successfully identified. If a problem occurs, it means that you have mistaken the firmware you downloaded in step 4, to correct the error by entering the correct firmware.

When you're done, click "Next" to continue.
Step 8: redsn0w jailbreak is now preparing the data. You should pass through a series of information. This is normal. Just wait a few seconds.
Step 9: After preparing the redsn0w jailbreak data will automatically go to the screen below. "Install Cydia" should be enabled by default. Installing Cydia is the absolute minimum, so make sure this option is enabled.
You can also install custom boot logo, but we will not go there in this tutorial. Click "Next" to continue.

Step 10: Now redsn0w will ask you if your device is turned off and connected to the computer via a USB cable. If you switch it off to make sure it is plugged in, then turn off the phone. Click "Next" to continue only if the unit is turned off and is connected to the computer.
Step 11: Now redsn0w will help your iPhone in DFU mode, which is an important part of the jailbreak. Follow the onscreen instructions carefully:

  • Hold down the power button for 3 seconds
  • Without releasing the power button, restart and hold down the Home button for 10 seconds and
  • Release the power button and hold the Home button for 15 seconds
 If you have this right, the iPhone is in DFU mode to go, you can take the next step.

If not, right, redsn0w will give you an error message. Make sure you know more about DFU mode here, then try again.
Step 12: If done properly, will begin the jailbreak process.
Step 13: You should have a series of codes that can be seen on the iPhone screen. And 'normal, so do not stress. We are almost done.
Step 14: Once done, your iPhone will reboot automatically. Now you should see the Cydia icon on your device. If the Cydia icon is white, just install an application from Cydia, and the icon will be displayed properly.
